Sucessful In College

Have you ever thought about dropping out of college? Thinking it’s not the place for you? I know I have already had those thoughts and I’ve only been here for 5 weeks. College isn’t right for everyone, in fact most people just can’t find the effort to graduate. It’s better to figure out what you want before you get here rather than waste money on something you’re not going to do. You should know what you’re getting into before you go, you don’t really understand it until you go through it, so here’s my experience so far.
Studying is hard enough, not adding your athletics, social life and all your sleep you’re going to need just to be able to get out of bed in the morning. I know from my experience already everything is just super over whelming. The best advice I got was no matter what just get up and go to class. Grades in college are way different from high school your absences actually count against you and can make your grade drop dramatically.
If you’re willing to put your social life on hold for a little to study then you might just have a chance to make it. It doesn’t have to be boring but it also doesn’t have to be a party every night, and you will probably have to learn that on your own. Just remember we all need sleep. Here’s a few tips that can help you out:

Make sure you get the help you need, most colleges offer a lot of different programs of tutoring and study groups. Make sure you take full advantage of the opportunities you come across.
Remember college is a new place, different from high school a place for you to rename yourself. If you didn’t like how high school went then change it, you have the power now. Your finally all on your own, no one to tell you what to do or right from wrong. Look at this as an opportunity, not a requirement. You should be proud of where you are, and keep working toward that dream. Will these be the memories you want in 10 years?

  1. Hayley,
The way you started out your blog may really get to some readers because some people here don’t know what they want to do and feel as though it is a struggle to go to class every day. “Look at this as a opportunity not a requirement” is a great way to explain college. If you don’t want to be here then don’t, but if you do make the most of it and enjoy it!

  2. Hayley,
This is a very good blog that catches readers attention from the very beginning with questions that maybe goes through every college student mind. Many student struggle with the obstacles that they find in college which makes them give up that leads to wasted time for nothing. “College isn’t right for everyone, in fact most people just can’t find the effort to graduate” is very true but the ones who really want to succeed will go through any obstacles with all their effort without giving up.

  3. Paige and Oscar,
Thank you for your compliments, it really helps knowing some students can relate. That’s the main purpose of why I wrote this because I knew some college students can relate to what I’m going through and maybe if they know there not alone they wont give up.
